Behind the Retreats: Zahra's Story & Expertise
If you are comfortable answering, what are some of the events or challenges that led you to develop your work?
After 11 years in corporate accounting, I reached a point where I could no longer ignore what my body was trying to tell me. I knew I couldn’t keep living a life that lacked true purpose. Historically, my pattern was to override my anxiety and panic attacks and just keep going, but this time, I was determined to break the cycle. I chose to listen. I chose to nourish my body and hold space for what my inner child needed, rather than fighting it. Transitioning into entrepreneurship is terrifying, but knowing that my family and friends were standing by me, ready to support me in the good, the ugly, and all the gray areas, is what gave me the foundational confidence to build my brand and company.
Who inspired you when you first started on this journey?
My sisters, Marzieh Daoust and Razieh Scott, inspired me when I first started this journey. Marzieh is the first entrepreneur in my family. She is bold and brave in how she runs her company, and her work ethic is second to none. She inspired me to lead my life with hard work and authenticity and taught me that there are no shortcuts.
Razieh is full of life and was my first personal trainer. She believed in me before I believed in myself and showed me what I was capable of achieving. She inspired me to move my body and was incredibly patient as she taught me workouts in the gym. She was truly my first fitness coach, and to this day, my favorite Orangetheory instructor. Because of her encouragement and guidance, I built the consistency that allows me to work out regularly now. It was a journey that took over five years, and I’m grateful she was there from the beginning.
What were three of your favorite books that helped you get clear on your path?
- Light is the New Black: A Guide to Answering Your Soul’s Callings and Working Your Light By: Rebecca Campbell
- Discovering My Wings: From “Perfect” Wife to an Untethered Life By: Kara Kihm
- The Alchemist By: Paulo Coelho
What were some of the signs or challenges that first brought you to this aspect of your life’s work?
I used to think success meant running at 100 mph, no matter the cost. To keep up, I was living a heavily medicated lifestyle, using stimulants to power through the day and sleeping pills to crash at night, all while brushing off regular panic attacks. I thought I didn’t have a choice. But true success can’t be copied from someone else’s blueprint. Over the last seven years, I decided to drop the facade. I stopped forcing my life and started respecting my well-being. Today, my work is rooted in that transformation: moving away from a chaotic, forced existence and stepping into a life of purpose, health, and flow.
Where do you live now and is this your dream location and why?
I live in Santa Monica, California. Yes it is! Born and raised in Massachusetts, living in SoCal is something I’ve been manifesting since I was 14. Growing up watching The OC and Laguna Beach, I always felt pulled toward Los Angeles. It felt like my soul knew this is where I would thrive and grow. Living here has allowed me to stop running and start embracing who I truly am.
How have your travels impacted inspired your life and or work perspective?
Travel has taught me that there are so many ways to live a life. It has made me more well-rounded, open-minded, and reminded me that there are 8.3 billion different ways to experience life.
Through traveling to visit family from Iran to Germany, I’ve seen how much beauty exists in the world. I’ve seen how little someone can have and still make the best of it, finding gratitude simply in being alive. Those experiences have humbled me and made me deeply appreciative for what I have.
When things get hard, I think about my ancestors. I honor them, especially the women, for their resilience, wisdom, and unseen guidance. I feel them with me, and I’m devoted to making them proud.
Are you involved with any local or online communities that inspire or support you personally or in your work?
I’m a regional volunteer for my alma mater, Bentley University, in Los Angeles. I love bringing people together and creating spaces where community and connection can thrive. I am a part of the Superbloom Collective community, an organization dedicated to making wellness and in-person connection more accessible through donation-based classes, workshops, and community events. I attend women’s connection hours and wellness networking events, where I’m inspired by other women who are sharing their gifts with the world and creating meaningful impact.
