Q&A with Dr. Bernadette Anderson

Behind the Retreats: Bernadette’s Story & Expertise
If you are comfortable answering, What are some of the events or challenges that led you to develop your work?

I often say my work was born at the intersection of science and soul. As a physician, I’ve seen how illness doesn’t just live in the body – it weaves through our stories, our experiences, and our spirits. But I also know firsthand the weight of challenges: grief, loss, and the invisible battles that can leave us feeling fractured. Those moments taught me that true healing is never one-dimensional. It requires tending to the whole self – mind, body, and spirit. Out of those lessons, my purpose crystallized: to create a path where people could not only survive but truly thrive, and live fully.

One of my most personal lessons came through wrestling with unforgiveness. Carrying that burden was like dragging an anchor – it kept me tethered to pain and away from my own peace and wholeness. Learning to release it – through intention and grace – was a turning point. I stopped wandering to the refrigerator, searching for food to soothe my hurt, and instead began nourishing my spirit in healthier ways. That shift taught me that healing is not about covering wounds but about transforming them. And that is the heart of my work today.

Who inspired you when you first started on this journey?

My inspiration has always come from two places: the wisdom of those who came before me and the quiet courage of those I serve. My mother, with her strength and grace, showed me what it means to live with compassion and fortitude, even in the face of adversity. Every patient who has trusted me with their story has also been a teacher. Their resilience lit a fire in me to do more than write prescriptions – to create possibilities and reimagine what healing, health, and happiness can truly look like.

What were some of the signs or challenges that first brought you to this aspect of your life’s work?

I often say life leaves breadcrumbs for those willing to follow them. Mine appeared in whispers and small nudges: a patient’s silent struggle despite treatment, the quiet pull of unresolved pain in my own heart, the sudden clarity that tiny shifts in mindset could spark profound transformation. The challenge was realizing that traditional medicine alone couldn’t heal the body or nourish the spirit. Those moments became my compass, guiding me to a space where science and soul meet—a place where true wellness can bloom in every dimension.

What are your morning practices and routines that set you up to win every day?

I honor the morning with a simple ritual—water, gratitude, presence—letting each mindful pause whisper what I want to carry forward: clarity, courage, joy. Gentle stretches, with moments of stillness between them, awaken my body and stir my mind. I breathe as if drawing energy into every corner of my day, filling it with light and purpose. I set intentions, not schedules, knowing the energy we carry ripples through everything we touch. Each morning becomes a small ceremony of showing up fully—for myself, my work, and the world waiting to meet my presence. In just a few intentional minutes, I can turn an ordinary morning into a limitless day—and love myself a little more while I’m at it.

Mantra: Rise. Breathe deeply. Stand in presence. Honor yourself, and let your day unfold with intention.

What are you passionate about that most people don’t know?

Most people don’t know I could spend hours on FaceTime with my niece—laughing until our cheeks hurt, sharing stories that make us both think and dream, and hearing her take on the world, which is endlessly fascinating. Those moments of connection are pure joy for me; they remind me how powerful love, laughter, and curiosity can be. They recharge my spirit, spark my creativity, and show me that the simplest interactions—just being fully present with someone you care about—can energize every part of life.

What are some ways you manage work-life harmony?

Life isn’t a scale to be perfectly tipped between work and personal time—it’s impossible to achieve, and chasing it only leaves you exhausted and one step behind. Instead, embrace harmony—the art of moving with your energy, attention, and presence. Most days, it hides in the invisible spaces: the 30 seconds before you answer a call, the pause between tasks, the walk around the block to reset your mind. It’s in noticing sunlight spilling across the floor, the gentle rhythm of your breath, a shared laugh that surprises you, or a quiet sip of tea that reminds you life exists beyond obligations. Harmony also lives in the little rebellious joys—the extra minute to doodle, a spontaneous dance just for fun, or singing along off-key when your favorite song starts playing. When you honor these micro-moments, even the busiest days feel spacious, playful, and alive. Calm and possibility aren’t found on a calendar—they’re nestled in the in-between moments, waiting for you to pause and see them.

What a fantastically organized Mexico trip. This company took a lot of time and effort before the trip to make sure we were prepared for activities and it made such a difference. From transportation to accommodation everything was super. I thought this retreat was an awesome value. The excursions were fun and each day was well thought out. The instructors Desi and Natalya were fabulous and fun to be around. I highly recommend this company.

From start to finish this was an amazing experience! The Zoetry Casa Del Mar Los Cabos provided a beautiful backdrop for this retreat with a beautiful suite, gorgeous views, good food and great amenities. I made new friends along the way and found our sessions inspiring and transformative. What could be better than yoga sessions looking out at the Pacific Ocean! Thank you for this amazing opportunity Desi and Dr. Natiya. I left feeling relaxed and centered and I am grateful for the opportunity to have been a part of this retreat.
