Behind the Retreats: Mickey's Story & Expertise
If you are comfortable answering, what are some of the events or challenges that led you to develop your work?
I have always been interested in health and wellness, and I have been practising yoga and macrobiotics since I was 22. I’m 57. I’m absolutely fascinated with peoples’ association with their own individual health and the health of the world they live in; nature and animals. When I turned 50, it was like a lightbulb moment when I came to realise that I fundamentally wanted to live life with purpose and that my mission wasn’t in the fashion industry (as was the current job). Where my real interest lay: peoples’ health and well-being.
Who inspired you when you first started on this journey?
I was introduced to yoga 30+ years ago by a very close friend Nadia Narin who was the first person I know that had gone to India on a yoga teacher training course. I guess you could say this was my first inspiration to begin the journey of yoga.
What were three of your favorite books that helped you get clear on your path?
Andrew Cohen Enlightenment is a Secret.
What are some ways you manage work life balance?
I am one of those people who just goes for it!! Whatever I do, I do it 100%. I don’t really consider what I do now work, it’s all life to me.
Where do you live now and is this your dream location and why?
London. My dream location is where my people are at. My dream location has to be near the sea if I was to leave London. It would be to the coast somewhere hot… I’m open to suggestions.
How have your travels impacted inspired your life and or work perspective?
OH YES!!! Big time. Travel reminds me there’s a big world out there with endless possibilities. I love to travel to new places and learn new things about the world we all live in.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
Playing the piano. It is such a beautiful practice. To play an instrument is a gorgeous thing. The piano is focus in a different space… there’s no thinking.
Where did you spend most of your childhood?
I grew up in Glasgow, Scotland. I left home for my big dream life in London when I was 17. I’m 57 now, so I’m a Londoner.
Tell us about your current or past pets and what they mean to you in your daily life.
I only have had dogs. Our current family pet is ACE the Labrador. I got him for my son’s 30th birthday, but he is a family dog. We all love him, and he brings unbelievable joy.
What are your favorite three movies of all time and why?
- Star Wars the original trilogy, for so many reasons.
- The Terminator series. Love the concept and everything about the series and the spin offs
What are your morning practices and routines that set you up to win every day?
I always make at least 1 hour for myself in the morning, no matter what time I need to be at a place. I set my alarm super early to get this hour in. I start with hot water and lemon, then I have an amazing Chai tea routine. This hour includes a meditation online with my teacher.
What are you passionate about that most people don’t know?
Most people know most stuff about my passions because I’m very loud!! But probably that I take time for stuff like cooking food, gardening, and piano.
what else would you like your readers and potential retreat participants to know about you?
I’m serious about the results and the experience all my clients have on my retreats. I want you to have fun because smiling and learning work so well together. When you are having fun, the healing is working at its best. I have had clients on my retreats from all walks of life, both men and women. Generally, they are looking for something in themselves–you could say to find themselves again–and I facilitate programmes that very subtly and organically allow the space for that to happen. Read my reviews and join my community of people who are serious about their own health and the health of this beautiful planet we live on. It might seem like a big commitment from the outside, but this retreat could be the most rewarding investment you have made on the inside.
